Candles and glitter may seem like a great idea. After all, light and sparkle sound like the perfect marriage. Even something as simple as lighting a candle could turn magical with glitter. You should first ask yourself if glitter is safe to use for DIY candles.

Sadly, we have to tell you that glitter and candles can be a deadly marriage. When you mix fire and plastic (yes, glitter is made of plastic), you are in for a melting disaster with fireworks included, and not in a good way.

With Bioglitter™ PURE, you will be able to upgrade your homemade glitter candles with a safe sparkle. So, please keep reading to find out everything about it!

Glitter on Candles: Is it Safe?
If you didn’t know, regular glitter is made of plastic, mainly PLA or PET. Therefore, burning plastic releases toxic fumes that can harm you and the environment.

The problem with burning plastic is that it smells awful and releases toxic smoke laden with dangerous chemicals. So, the answer is NO! Regular glitter should never be used for candles.

In addition, it isn't just a matter of what happens when glitter is burned. Whenever you use plastic glitter, you add to the planet's pollution.

Since each glitter particle is less than five millimeters long, it is considered microplastic. It can endure for hundreds of years, polluting landfills and oceans before it degrades. Also, it can negatively impact marine ecosystems for decades.

So, regular glitter is not only a no-go for DIY candles; it is a big No-No for any use! Despite being sparkly and beautiful, this tiny little fellow poses a very serious threat to the planet.

Bioglitter™ PURE Is the Solution
Since plastic glitter is out of the question, you must turn to more eco-friendly products. But, in a world full of companies that make false claims, you must choose wisely, and your first option should be Bioglitter™ PURE.

We are a natural and eco-friendly alternative with a cellulose core made of eucalyptus tree plants. Best of all, Bioglitter™ PURE is 100% plastic-free!

Also, we hold the OK Biodegradable Water official certification by TÜV, the highest level of third-party certification for freshwater biodegradability worldwide.

To be considered naturally biodegradable in any environment, a real eco-friendly glitter must pass the freshwater test, and Bioglitter™ does that with flying colors. For that reason, Bioglitter™ PURE is considered the No. 1 biodegradable plastic-free glitter in the world and a natural alternative to regular glitter.

Bioglitter™ PURE achieves 87% biodegradation in under four weeks. It can biodegrade under natural conditions with the help of bacteria, water, oxygen, and heat. It degrades just as a leaf would in nature, turning into water, biomass, and carbon dioxide.

Also, when burned, Bioglitter™ PURE doesn’t melt. It simply turns to ashes, just like burning paper, so you don’t get any toxic fuels or pollution

How To Make Beautiful Glitter Candles
So, now that you know that Bioglitter™ PURE is safe for candles, we will teach you how to make them following four simple steps.

You will need:

Small metal tins, glass or ceramic pots
1 lb soy wax flakes (makes approximately four candles of 6 ounces)
Wicks
Pouring pot
Old spoon
Sticky wick tabs, glue dots, or double-stick tape
Your favorite shades of BIOGLITTER™ PURE
A scented oil (optional)
Let's get down to business!

Wick Tips and Tricks

First, you must secure the wick to the bottom of the container using glue dots, wick sticky tabs, or double-stick tape. Remember that the wick should be taller than the container to stand out.

Wick tabs are not essential but will make your life easier and safer.

Gluing the wick directly to the bottom of the tin means that the candle will burn down. Flares will, therefore, directly contact the bottom and could shatter the glass, releasing a flammable gelatinous mess.

Low and Slow

Melt the soy wax flakes slowly over low heat in a pouring pot. Start with the first half, and after it has begun to soften, add the rest and stir.

This process will take nearly 10 mins per pound. Patience is key!

You can also use the double boiler method and put your pouring pot inside a saucepan filled with water at medium heat. Since a double boiler rarely reaches the boiling point of water, there is less risk of scorching the wax. However, the whole process will take longer.

Once the wax has melted completely, remove it from heat.

If you want your candles with fragrance, this is the moment to add some scented oil drops, although this step is entirely optional. In any case, the usual ratio is around 1oz of scent to each pound of wax.

Carefully pour the wax blend into the containers. Make sure it is not overheated; otherwise, your wax will shrink in the middle of the container.

Add Some Sparkle

Take your favorite shades of Bioglitter™ PURE and pour them into the containers while the wax is still nice and warm! Since glitter is lighter than the wax, it will remain atop the surface, although it blends well.

Add as much glitter as you want and give it a gentle swirl or shake to cover all the edges. You will have a nice, shiny glitter layer with a foiled effect.

Final Touch-Ups

Use two sticks to keep your wick in the center of the tin. Once the wax has cooled completely (up to 12 hours), trim the wicks to about a ¼ inch height. Then, you will have to wait for 24 hrs before lighting up your candles.

So there you have it! When making glitter candles, you just have to melt, pour, add some Bioglitter™, and let them cool down. Nice and easy.

When it is time for some art crafts, always use Bioglitter™ PURE, the true plastic-free glitter safe for the environment! Because it is cosmetic-grade glitter, you can also use it for your makeup looks and body painting. Indeed, Bioglitter™ PURE is not only meant for decorations; it is also safe for human use on the skin, lips, and around the eyes.

Bioglitter VS. Traditional Glitter
It is important to use Bioglitter when making candles with glitter in them. Bioglitter is naturally biodegradable, meaning it is much better for the earth than traditional glitter. Bioglitter is also free of microplastics, which is one of the major causes of earth's pollution.

It is important to be conscious of the materials we use when making candles because a lot of traditional products can be harmful to our environment. The use of soy wax, essential oils, and Bioglitter allow us to reduce our footprint on the earth while enjoying the same benefits candles can give us.

Bioglitter’s Credentials
Bioglitter has the OK Biodegradeable Water certification, which is the highest third-party certification recognized globally for biodegradability. This means that when our glitter is mixed with fresh water like a lake, pond, or stream, it will break down. Traditional glitters will stay behind, causing pollution in its wake.

Additionally, Bioglitter breaks down up to 92% faster than other eco glitter products on the market. This means that when you are done with your candle and need to make a new one, you do not have to worry about rinsing the glitter down the drain. Within four weeks, it will almost be completely broken down.

Bioglitter Isn’t Flammable
Another concern many people have regarding glitter is its flammability. No one wants to add fuel to the fire, literally, when making a candle. Many people already fear the open flame of a candle and the risk they take by lighting one inside.

Bioglitter does not add to the flammability of a candle. On the contrary, the glitter literally burns into ask instead of burning. Why? Its call comes down to the core used inside the glitter.

Bioglitter uses a unique plant cellulose core within its glitter. Because it is derived from eucalyptus, the glitter turns to ash when it comes into contact with an open flame. This means you do not have to worry about an unruly fire. Traditional glitter, on the other hand, uses microplastics in its core, attributing to a higher flammability factor.

It’s Better For Your Breathing
Bioglitter is also better for your breathing than a traditional glitter candle. This is because Bioglitter does not contain plastic. If it is paired with a soy candle, it is even healthier. The harsh chemicals found in traditional glitters and candle waxes can cause harm to your lungs when the smoke from burning them is inhaled. Bioglitter does not have microplastics, providing a clean burn.

Bioglitter also does not contain carcinogens which are cancer-causing chemicals and compounds that can cause your risk for cancer to increase. Not only will you save the earth while using this glitter, but you are also saving yourself from potentially unnecessary health risks.

Bioglitter Isn’t Only For Candles
If you are excited to use Bioglitter for your candles, you will be even more excited to know that there are different types of Bioglitter for different types of uses. Bioglitter Deco is great for candles. But did you know that there is Bioglitter Pure and Bioglitter Sparkle available for your cosmetic needs?

That’s right; you can continue to get that extra sparkle in your life by using Bioglitter in your cosmetics. Bioglitter Pure and Bioglitter Sparkle also are free of microplastics, which are beneficial for your skin and health.
